Walton County Tax Collector Encourages Citizens to be Careful When Renewing Tags Online to Avoid Unnecessary Costs

DeFuniak Springs, FL (March 3, 2016)- Walton County Tax Collector Rhonda Skipper is urging citizens renewing vehicle registrations online to renew through waltontaxcollector.com and avoid additional fees charged by private tag agencies.

Private tag agencies are popping up around the state offering tag renewal services. While these agencies can provide the same service offered by the tax collector’s office, they are doing so for a premium price. Private tag agencies have physical office locations in central and south Florida, but also have an online presence.

“On two occasions recently, Walton County citizens renewed online unaware they were renewing through a private tag agency and were upset at the cost of their renewals,” said Skipper. “They ended up paying an additional $22.00 per registration. We’ve made the online renewal process so much easier from our website, and I encourage citizens to visit waltontaxcollector.com to renew and avoid paying unnecessary fees.”

These private tag agencies are operating legally and providing great service to customers. Many citizens, however, are simply unaware vehicle registration services are provided by anyone other than a local tax collector’s office or the Florida Department of Highway and Motor Services, leading the citizen to unknowingly pay more.

To make sure you are on the correct site, visit the renewal site by going through waltontaxcollector.com. Click on the Tag Registration/Renewal option under the Renew heading. This will redirect you to the renewal site where you will see the Walton County Tax Collector’s Office logo along with the state seal. Additionally, you will see Rhonda Skipper, Tax Collector, Walton County in the middle of the page.

Should a citizen have questions regarding their renewal, please contact the Tax Collector’s Office at (850) 892-8121 or visit www.waltontaxcollector.com.
